The 2011 4 on 4 Basketball EARTHSHAKE

This years tournament is on Saturday August 20, 2011 and is presented by Zellers, Stone Road. The tournament is still a fundraising event and hopes to raise awareness and monies for the Shake True Hoops initiative Ball 4 All For Goodness Shake!, an outreach program for Guelph at-risk youth. Shelldale 3 on 3 Tournament

In 1989 I played for the Guelph Gryphons basketball team. Our team ball boy was a youngster named Michael Breaton. Michael suffered from cancer. Michael was a great kid who battled for 3 more years before fading "gently into that goodnight". Having had many family members succumb to this insidious disease, I was greatly affected by Michael's passing. Years later I ran into his dad Dan. I told him I would like to make Michael and Dan part of the Onward Willow 3 on 3 Tournament that STH has initiated. Dan was enthusiastic and so the 5 year old Onward Willow 3 on 3 tourney added Children's Cancer as a recepient of the proceeds collected throughout the tournament.

A word about Onward Willow - this community centre off Shelldale crescent is, as Mercury columnist Randy Norris described "a gem in our tarnished crown". The center helps those who need it. Having seen firsthand the miracles they perform daily for those in the community, it weighs heavily on my conscience that I do something to help those who help others.

The Onward Willow 3 on 3 Tournament would like to provide all with a chance to help or at least contribute to 2 programs that change people's lives for the positive. All donations are appreciated and there are none too big nor too small.
