Achonwa moved to Guelph when she was five years old and soccer was her first sport of choice. That's when local club basketball coach Andy Chaput spotted her playing soccer on his daughter's team and got her to try out for basketball. With the help of high school and club coaches, and local basketball instructor Steve Cuevas, Achonwa has progressed to the point where she is one of the best players her age in Canada. Three years away from graduating high school, she is already getting letters from American universities. Achonwa will be the youngest player in the NEDA program.
